Celebration of Fifty Years of Ministry for St. Albans Episcopal Church, Delaware, at the Feast of St. Alban, June 21, 2009

On June 21, 2009, we observed the Feast of St. Alban, for whom our parish was named. We celebrated Fifty Years of Ministry with remembrance of our Parish life and a special Coffee Hour luncheon.
The 10:00 AM service included rousing music, Sunday School Awards and recognition of several visitors who had been present at the founding of St. Alban’s Church. Carol Shackleton was present, the wife of the Rev. John Shackleton. John was the priest who founded St. Alban’s mission and guided the members to become a parish. We also welcomed Julian and Adelaide Coons, wife and daughter of Waldo Coons.
Kelsey and Alison Olnstead received Bibles for completing 3rd grade. Chris Olmstead and Lexie Harra received prayer books for completing the 6th grade. The Sunday School teachers were recognized and a request for a Sunday School Director for next year was noted.
The youth of the parish and presented a wonderful and unique hand-painted silk banner. One of the squares reads "Some of the things we love about St. Alban's by the youth of the parish for the greater glory of God and with love for the people of St. Alban's in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Nine."
The banner is designed to be hung in church so that we can all be inspired during worship. The artists who painted the banner include: Lexie Harra; Allie, Kelsey, and Chris Olmstead; Lindsey, Kevin, and Jason Roux; Kaylynn Taylor; Carla Wegner; Susannah, Graham, and Julia Wright; and David Yoncha. Special thanks to Carol Palermo and Mary Wright who were very helpful during this project. Please take some time to look closely at their work, to thank our young artists, and to think about the things you love about St. Alban's.
