On Saturday, July 17, at 6:00 p.m. we will welcome Margie with a potluck supper.
The Very Rev. Margaret Pumphrey called to be
Rector of St. Albans
The Vestry met with the Search Team and reached unanimous consensus to offer the Very Reverend Margaret K. “Margie” Pumphrey the position of Rector of St. Albans (permanent part time) after finding Margie to be a very close match to the needs of the Parish. Margie has accepted St. Albans’ call and is planning to join us in July.
Margie will come to us from the Diocese of West Missouri where she serves in Kansas City as Priest Associate at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Day School, a rapidly growing resource size urban parish. She previously served as Rector of St. Augustine’s, a historic African American pastoral size parish in Kansas City. Margie spent most of her life in Delaware. She served as Priest-in-Charge at the Church of the Nativity in New Castle, Chaplain for Christiana Care Health Services and for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and has been an active lay leader in the Diocese. She is a Spiritual Director, having received a Master of Science degree in the field at Neumann College.
Margie has four grown children that are located from Delaware to Vermont. Her husband John has two sons, also on the east coast. They have two grandchildren. She has a variety of interests, having studied Russian and computer science as well as being musically trained in voice. She loves to garden, cook, read and be with her children and grandchildren. Margie and John enjoy going to concerts, ballet, and museums together.
John is also an Episcopal priest. He has worked as a hospital chaplain and Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor for his priesthood of 37 years, and he has always enjoyed being associated with a parish. He especially enjoys poetry and music. John will remain in Kansas City where he serves as Director of Spiritual Wellness at St. Luke's Health System, and will visit Delaware often.
We are blessed to have been able to call a Rector that meets our needs in this short period of time. Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated Search Committee and Vestry, we have a bright future at St. Albans. Rejoice and be glad!
Peace,
John Norman, Senior Warden
