Spiritual Growth

This is a very fluid part of the St. Albans Web site, since various activities will come and go with some regularity over time. Thus, it would be a good idea to check in here periodically to learn what is happening currently.

Acts of the Apostles

Every Sunday, the Interim Rector and interested parishioners meet in the Vestry Room from 9:30 to 10:15 to study the Acts of the Apostles, the book that tells the story of the early Christian Church.  Learning about their life together as Christians helps us as we think together about life here at St. Albans.  It may also help us to reflect on our daily lives as Christians.  This series started on September 14, 2008.  It is expected that some will not be able to attend some of the sessions and that others may want to join along the way; it is quite all right to attend when and if it is possible.

Interactive Bible Study

Each Monday, participants will receive an e-mail which will include a copy of the gospel reading for the coming Sunday and some questions to help them reflect on the lesson. All will e-mail questions and thoughts to the other participants. It will be an ongoing conversation during the week. The mechanism is something called a Yahoo group. Any e-mail sent to the group email address will go to everyone who signs up. Any responses to that e-mail will do the same.

If you want to take part, click here to send an e-mail to Jim Wolford, our Interim Rector; he will then send you an e-mail to invite you to be part of the group. When you respond to that e-mail, you will register with Yahoo and be added to the list. Only those who sign up will receive the emails. If you want to end your participation at any time, that is as easy as sending an email to Yahoo asking to be removed from the list.

Moravian Daily Texts

The Moravian Church provides an Internet-based service which sends an e-mail each morning containing two brief scripture readings and a prayer. Each day has a theme, and it provides a brief devotional opportunity. Click here to sign up for this daily email on their website.

Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation

Join the Sept. 25 Day of Witness

Who isn’t frustrated every time they pick up a newspaper and see the headlines? Who isn’t disappointed and disillusioned by the news on television? Who wouldn’t like to see drastic changes in our community, in our country, in the world? (and no this is not an advertisement for Barack Obama) And how many of us feel powerless to facilitate those changes?

Imagine if we could help eradicate poverty and hunger, promote equality, improve health care and ensure environmental sustainability. Imagine if your efforts could make a BIG difference in bringing healing to a broken world. I’d like to tell you about an opportunity to make a promise to advocacy and worldwide change.

On Thursday, September 25, Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation in solidarity with people throughout the world are responding to the great need by committing themselves to a day of prayer, fasting and witnessing.

On September 25th, we are being called

If you’re interested in joining the movement, click here to visit the Sept. 25 website and sign up! The website offers a wealth of information on how you can help change the world!
